General Guidelines

  • Always use a high-resolution PNG or JPEG of your logo with a minimum resolution of 150 DPI.
  • When uploading a single logo file for printing on fabric or wallpaper, you can choose to have it repeat, but Spoonflower doesn’t add any space between the repeatsYou may need to add extra space in your original file to be sure the logos are spaced apart appropriately. Skip down to the file prep section below to learn more about using Canva to prepare your file.

  • Be sure any background colors in your file extend to the edge of the file, otherwise the design will look broken up into separate squares as opposed to a seamless repeating layout.

  • Spoonflower does not print with any white inks. If you upload a file with a transparent background or a background filled with pure white (hex code #FFFFF), then only your logo will print and the background will remain as the unprinted white fabric.
  • Spoonflower prints in RGB color mode (specifically the sRGB color space). If you have multiple versions of your logo, make sure you’re using the RGB version otherwise the colors will shift when uploading to Spoonflower. Learn more about converting and saving files in sRGB, here.
  • Please keep in mind that we ask all of our customers to only upload images that they have created themselves or have explicit permission to use. Learn more about what type of images you can print with Spoonflower here.

File Prep

This tutorial will walk you through how to format your company logo for printing on fabric, home decor, or wallpaper using a free online design program called Canva. Create a free Canva account to get started, then follow the steps below.

Canvas Setup

Go to Canva.com, click on the Create button at the top of the icons on the left-hand side.

Click the Custom size option and enter in your dimensions in inches. Make sure the “units” dropdown is changed to inches as well and then click Create new design. This tutorial uses the Spoonflower logo with the goal of printing it at 1″ x 1″ with 1/2″ of space all the way around. So, the final file size will need to be 2″ x 2”

Tip: Try using a ruler and a piece of paper to draw different-sized squares or rectangles to visualize how large you want your logo to be.

Background Color (Optional)

All Spoonflower fabric and wallpaper is white before printing, so if you’d prefer your fabric or wallpaper to have an unprinted white background you can just leave it blankIf you’d prefer color in your background, you can fill the background with color by clicking the color wheel icon. From there, you’ll see a menu where you can choose a color or type in a specific hex code.

Tip: Have a specific color in mind? Learn more about using color maps to get the perfect color on our products, here.

Upload Your Logo

From the toolbar on the left side go to Uploads, and then click the purple button to Upload files from your computer.

Once its finished uploading, click on your logo to add it to your canvas

Resize and Center Your Logo

The next step is to resize the logo to be 1″ x 1″. With the logo selected, click and drag in from one of the corners to resize. You’ll see measurements pop up next to your cursor as you’re resizing so you can set it to a specific size.

Resizing the logo might move it from being centered. To fix that, click on your logo to go to Position in the top right and align it to both the Middle and Center.

Note: This file had a transparent background, so it lays nicely on top of the teal background added earlier If your design has a pure white background, you can leave it white so the fabric is unprinted. Or if need be, you can try out Canva’s background remover tool. Whether you choose to do a solid color background or a white background, just make sure it’s consistent and extends to the edge of the file.

Export Your File

Now we’re ready to export! In the top right corner where it says Untitled design, rename your file. Then click the Share button and click Download. Select PNG as the File Type option from the drop-down shown on the next page, which is the default. Then click Download. Canva will export and download the file to your computer.

Adjust Your Layout

Once you have uploaded your design, you will see the Design Edit Page where you can adjust the layout for each product. This example demonstrates adjusting and ordering on fabric specifically, but you can also adjust the layout separately on wallpaper before purchasing. Or, if you’d like to order any of our finished home decor products (pillows, curtains, etc.), the layout for these products will be determined by how you have chosen to save it on fabric.

Click the Edit button below the fabric preview image. You will then be able to make any necessary adjustments on the Design Layout page.  It’s helpful to adjust the preview cut size found at the bottom of the page to the amount of fabric you intend to purchase first. Next, adjust the repeat and scale on the right-hand side.

  • Spoonflower offers a few different options for repeating patterns. A basic repeat (the default option), half-drop, half-brick, centered and mirrored. For a project like this, you want to avoid using the centered or mirrored options, but feel free to play around with either the basic, half-drop and half-brick options to see what works best for you. Learn more about your options, here.
  • Keep in mind that this design was exported from Canva at 300 DPI, but Spoonflower will display a design at 150 DPI at 100%. Therefore, you'll need to adjust the scale to 50% so that it returns to the original sizing we intended, as shown in the image below.
  • Once the layout is set to the correct scale and repeat, save all of your selections using the Save button.

Tip: Every design uploaded to Spoonflower is set to private by default. Your design won’t be public or marked for sale unless you choose for it to be by clicking the "For Sale" option on the Design Edit page. To mark your design for sale, you must also complete a multi-step seller verification process.

Place Your Order

Once you’ve saved your layout, click the buy button to purchase your fabric! You can learn more about placing fabric orders, here
