What is a Spoonflower Mural?
A Spoonflower Mural is a large-scale wallpaper design that creates one continuous image across six wallpaper rolls. Unlike standard wallpaper, which features a repeating pattern, murals are designed as a coordinated scene that spans your wall while still repeating seamlessly for larger spaces.
Designs within the Spoonflower Mural collection have been selected from submissions by Spoonflower artists. Mural designs are ideal for creating an installation with one large-scale continuous design across multiple numbered wallpaper rolls.
Murals are printed in 24-inch-wide panels that are labeled in installation order and are available on all Spoonflower wallpaper types.

What type of wallpaper are murals printed on? Which should I choose?
We print murals on every wallpaper type we offer at Spoonflower! Please review Choosing the Best Wallpaper and/or How to Install Wallpaper to help determine the best Spoonflower wallpaper for your project. The best choice for your project will ultimately be determined by factors such as:
- the type of room you wish to install it in and how it is used
- whether you wish to DIY the project or hire a professional installer
- whether you are looking for a temporary or permanent option
- your installer preferences, when applicable
We recommend ordering a mural swatch before ordering the full mural; to be sure the printed colors will work for you. Colors will vary depending on the type of wallpaper you choose, so be sure to order swatch(es) on the exact type(s) you are considering. Be sure to view the printed sample(s) in your space under different lighting conditions.
How do I order a mural sample?
Once you have located the mural design you are interested in, click the “Buy a Sample” button. A menu will pop-up with a list of wallpaper types. Click the check box(es) next to any wallpaper type(s) you are interested in sampling. Once you’ve made your selection(s), click the “Add to cart” button to add the sample(s) to your cart. Once you are ready to check out, click the cart icon in the upper right-hand corner and proceed through the checkout process.
What is printed on a mural sample?

I’ve received my sample and am ready to purchase the full mural. How can I find the design again?
You can scan the QR code on your mural sample to return to the design’s page to order the full mural. However, if you are unable to scan the QR code, you can also use your order history to easily locate the design. To do so, go to https://www.spoonflower.com/en/account/orders
- If you are a logged in user with an account, you’ll see your purchase history here and can locate the design from your mural sample purchase.

How do I measure my wall(s) for a mural?
All Spoonflower murals are 9-ft tall and printed in easy-to-install 24-inch-wide rolls. Each roll includes an additional 1-2" of length as installation margin. Roll widths are finished dimensions and do not include extra margin. For the best fit, we recommend adding 3-4" to your final wall width measurement before placing your order.
A Few Helpful Tips:
- Round your measurements up to the nearest whole inch
- Measure the full width of your wall, including doors, windows, vents or built-ins
- Colors may vary slightly from order to order, so we recommend ordering everything you need for your project at the same time.
- If you are working with a professional installer, it is best practice to confirm measurements and quantities with them before ordering.
Measuring for a large space? No problem. Our Murals are designed to repeat seamlessly every 12 ft (6 rolls) and we’ll automatically account for repeats when calculating your order.
▶ Standard wall
Measure the full width of your wall from one end to the other. For the most accurate measurement, measure in two or three spots (near the ceiling, the middle, and near the floor). Walls aren’t always perfectly straight, so use the widest measurement you find to account for uneven tapering or bowing in your wall.
▶ Multiple connected walls
If your mural extends across more than one connected wall, measure each wall section individually, then add those widths together.
▶ Walls with doors, windows, or other obstacles
Measure the full width of the entire wall, including doors, windows, vents or built-ins. These areas will be trimmed away during installation. If the obstacle is close to a corner or trim edge, consider rounding up slightly to allow for any natural variations in the wall surface.
▶ Staircases
Measure the wall as if the staircase angle wasn’t there – find the tallest and widest imaginary rectangle that contains the entire area you want to cover. The diagonal portion is removed during installation, but having the full rectangle ensures the design isn’t missing any important parts.
▶ Sloped Walls
Measure to the tallest point and widest point of the wall. Even if the slope seems minor, always assume you need the full rectangle around it. The sloped area will be cut away later, but this method ensures the full mural layout stays intact.
▶ Multi-Sloped Walls
Same idea as sloped walls – find the highest and widest points across the entire shape and measure the full rectangle that would enclose it. This is especially helpful if the slopes are at different angles or meet in the middle. Anything angled or irregular is trimmed away during installation.
Installation
How do I install a mural?
Unroll the panel and locate the barcode. In this section, the panel will be labeled A, B, C, D, E, or F. Hang panels left to right starting with A and working through B, C, etc. If you order more than 6 rolls, your panel letters will repeat. Therefore, after hanging panel F, you’d start again with panel A, and so on.

Designing and Customization
Can you adjust the mural height?
All murals are printed 9-ft tall, with an additional 1-2" of length as installation margin. We cannot customize the height. If your walls are shorter than 9-ft, you can trim the mural to fit, keeping in mind that some design elements may be lost in the process depending on the particular design you choose. Use the design preview images to help determine if a particular design will be suitable on a shorter wall.
I’m not a Spoonflower Seller/Artist. Can I upload my own custom art to purchase on a mural?
Spoonflower has worked with a select group of our existing artists on this curated offering. Due to the additional technical requirements involved in this product, our mural product is not open for general customer upload, and we are not accepting additional art at this time. However, to request customization of an existing mural on our site (such as scale, color, or composition refinements), please reach out to help@spoonflower.com with the subject line “Mural Customization Request”.
I am an existing Spoonflower Artist. How do I upload a mural to sell on Spoonflower?
