New Spoonflower Shop Templates

Note: Shop templates are now live! Existing artists must complete their shop update by November 5.

The Artist Shop experience has been redesigned to provide artists with a more professional storefront, improve design discovery for customers, and to simplify shop setup and management. The new experience introduces updated shop settings, a modern page layout, improved search and browsing capabilities for customers, and a display-friendly Shop Name.

What is changing?

On October 5, 2026 we released a new template for all artist shops. This is part of our ongoing work to improve the shopping experience for customers and better showcase artists' work. The new template will replace the current shop layout across the site. The redesigned Artist Shop moves away from the legacy profile-style page and introduces a storefront focused on:

  • Better artist branding
  • Improved discovery for shoppers
  • Enhanced portfolio presentation
  • More structured shop management tools
  • New search, filtering, and browsing tools for customers that replace the original shop tag feature
What is not changing?
  • Artists do not have to re-upload their designs.

  • All information or data associated with individual designs will remain the same (ex: favorites, sales history, design links).

  • There will be no changes to artist collections.

What is included in the new template?

The new template updates the layout across all artist shops to create a more consistent, modern shopping experience.  The new Shop Settings experience will allow artists to:

  • Add / edit their Shop Name
  • Upload an artist photo and banner image
  • Write a shop bio and share more details about their style and inspiration
  • Opt-in to accepting custom design requests
  • Preview changes before publishing
When will this happen?
  • October 5, 2026: The new Artist Shop template became available in your account. You can now start editing and previewing your new shop. Your current public shop remains visible to shoppers while you review, customize, and prepare your redesigned shop. During this rollout period:
    • You must review and update your shop using the new template.
    • Publishing your redesigned shop does not immediately update your public shop.
    • New artist applications will temporarily be paused.
    • Your existing public shop will remain visible to shoppers.
  • November 5, 2026: This is the deadline to publish your new Artist Shop updates to avoid delisting.  However, you can continue making changes, previewing updates, and republishing your redesigned shop as often as needed.
  • December 2026: All updated shops will go live at the same time. Your shop will not automatically switch over the moment you finish making changes. It will remain on the current template until the group release in December. At launch, customers will see your updated shop experience, and any existing shop URLs will automatically redirect to this new shop experience.
How do I update my shop?

To update your Artist Shop template, follow the steps below:

  1. Login to your Spoonflower account, click the user profile icon, then click “View My Shop”screenshot of spoonflower home page with user profile menu and "view my shop" option
  2. From there, you’ll see the option to either “View My Old Shop” or “Edit Your Shop”. Click the teal “Edit Your Shop” button to view the new shop template.

  3. You will then see the new Artist Shop Settings page. Complete all sections (see more details in the additional FAQs below).

    • Artist photo
    • Shop banner
    • About your shop - shop name and shop link, shop location, and shop info.
    • More about this artist – answer the 5 questions to give customers a deeper look at who you are as an artist and what inspires you.  All 5 questions are required and have a minimum character limit of 100 and a maximum of 500.
    • Custom requests – toggle this option and submit your email address if you are open to being contacted by customers for custom design requests. This may include resizing an existing design for a customer, altering colors, or other customization inquiries.
  4. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see three buttons to choose from.

  • Save & Preview: Preview your shop to see how it will appear to shoppers before publishing. This allows you to review your content, images, and layout before making your updates ready for launch.  Once you are finished viewing the preview, be sure to click “Continue Editing” in the upper right hand corner to return to the shop settings page.
  • Save: Save your progress and continue working on your shop later. Saving creates a draft and does not make any changes visible to shoppers.
  • Finish Shop Setup: Use this button to publish your shop when you're satisfied with your updates. This marks your shop as complete and ready for launch.
How will I know if I’ve successfully completed the update?

Be sure you have clicked the “Finish Shop Setup” button. You’ll see a banner that says “Scheduled for Launch” and “Your shop is ready for launch”, meaning you’ve completed all the required updates.

What is required for the Artist photo?

For the required artist photo, please upload a headshot. Artists with photos of themselves are more likely to be featured by Spoonflower. The artist photo should be a JPG or PNG that is under 500 KB. The file must be a square - we recommend 500 pixels by 500 pixels.

What is required for the banner image?

Add a banner image to personalize your shop, highlight your signature patterns, and showcase your overall design aesthetic. Choose a high-quality image with a composition that keeps the most important design elements visible across screen sizes. Preview your shop using the “Save and Preview” button before publishing to make sure the banner displays as intended. The banner image should be a JPG or PNG that is under 500 KB. The dimensions must be 1600 pixels wide by 500 pixels in height.

Please note: Banner images must contain imagery only. Do not include text, URLs, social media handles, promotional messaging, or other text-based content. Banner images may be displayed differently across devices and page layouts, and text can get cropped or become difficult to read. Use your Shop Name and profile information for text-based branding instead.

Here's an example of the same banner used on both a laptop and mobile device. Note how the same image is displayed differently.

Note: If you are having trouble keeping your banner under 500 KB, try compressing your file. In most design software programs, there are options to compress a file when saving. For example, if you are using Photoshop, you can save a file as a .JPEG and an image quality prompt will pop up.  Reduce the quality using the dropdown menu or slider tool.

What is a Shop Name?

Your Shop Name is the public-facing name displayed throughout Spoonflower, including:

  • Artist Shop page
  • Search results
  • Product pages

Spaces are allowed in shop names. For example, "Blue Bird Designs" instead of "BlueBirdDesigns". The Shop Name can be changed at any time.

What is a Shop Link?

Your shop link is the unique web address customers use to visit your shop.  It is generated from the original screenname you chose when creating your account and cannot be changed at this point. After the new shops launch sitewide, you will no longer see screennames across the site and see the new full shop names (with spaces) instead.

What is the Custom Request section?

If you decide to toggle custom requests on, customers would use their own email provider to reach out to you via the email you have listed there.  You are welcome to use a different email address than the one on your account and many artists choose to create a specific email address for this purpose. The example below shows what this looks like on a public profile - if the customer clicks "Email the artist", it will open their default email program and automatically create a new message draft pre-filled with the email address you provided.

What happens if I don't update my shop in time?

If your shop isn't updated within the 30-day window after the template becomes available (so, by November 5), then your shop may be considered inactive and could be subject to delisting. If your shop is delisted:

  • Your account will still exist, but you will no longer be verified to sell.
  • All of your designs will be set to private, will no longer be for sale, and will be removed from Spoonflower search and discovery experiences.
  • Your Artist Shop will no longer be publicly visible.
  • Customers won't be able to browse your shop through your Artist Shop page.
  • Existing shop links may lead to an unavailable page.
  • You'll need to submit a new artist application to become an active artist again.
Will my shop change automatically once I've made my updates?

No. Even after you complete your updates, your shop will remain the same until we release all updated shops together in December. You won't need to do anything further once your updates are submitted- just make sure they're done by November 5.

Will my old Artist Shop link continue to work?

Yes! Existing URLs will continue to redirect to the new shop page.

I've published my new shop but need to go back and make some changes.  How can I do that?

You can continue making changes, previewing updates, and republishing your redesigned shop as often as needed. To do so, click on the user profile icon and then "View My Shop". You should see a black banner at the top with a button that says "Edit Shop" to make any additional edits.
